Spooky Gulch is a short slot canyon hike in the Grand Staircase-Escalante area, located on the Hole-in-the-Rock Road, 26 miles south of the town of Escalante. Spooky is well-named and pretty famous for how dark it gets when deep in a slot, and for the panic-inspiring quality of its extremely narrow walls. Peek-A-Boo is a slot and corkscrew, and Spooky Gulch is a narrow slot canyon. It is worth noting, due to the restrictive nature of the some of the spaces in Spooky, this canyon is better suited for smaller body types. Adding to the cool factor of this destination is that it’s a loop — which is rare for these parts. The sincerely astonishing Spooky Gulch formed in what now constitutes the state of Utah, in the United States, in North America. This marvel of Nature originally formed through the geological process of erosion. The walls of the canyon consist entirely of sandstone. The walls also remain famous for their knobby formations.

Dry Fork Narrows, Peekaboo and Spooky Slot Canyons is a 6.1 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Kanab, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from May until November.

Spooky Slot Canyon is a fun, family-friendly slot canyon in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Peek-A-Boo slot canyon was my favorite and a little less narrow than Spooky. Spooky got pretty narrow. The rope near the rock fall section in Spooky is sketchy, the rope didn't look very trusting. We started at Peek-A-Boo and did the loop towards Spooky so we down climbed by the rope, so that helped.

Heavy people might not be able to make it through Spooky. Directions: From the junction of Highway 12 and 24 near Torrey, UT, head south on Highway 12 for 58 miles.
